**”The Beginning of the Journey”**
Fares El Hoseny was born in the city of Al-Sinbillawin in the Dakahlia Governorate, a neighbor to the great artist Umm Kulthum in the village of El-Zahira. His media and journalism journey began at an early age. He is currently studying in the Radio and Television Department at the Faculty of Mass Communication at Al-Azhar University and learning the arts of cinema (screenwriting, directing, sound, editing, and set design) at the Arab School of Cinema and Television.
Fares has always had a passion for media and communication, and he stood out in the media world as a program presenter on his digital platforms, such as “From Story to Stories” and “Witness to Reality.” His life is marked by cultural diversity and richness, as he hails from a family with a distinguished history and cultural heritage. His great-grandfather, Sheikh of the Arabs, Abu Qoura, was the king of Mansoura and a French resistance fighter in the Battle of Mansoura, owning nearly a quarter of Egypt’s villages and countless spoils and wealth. He is a source of inspiration and a role model for Fares in life (as mentioned in the book “A Brief Overview of Egypt” by the French campaign doctor Clot Bey). His lineage is traced to the Prophet’s family, as recorded in the Syndicate of Al-Ashraf.
From childhood, Fares was passionate about radio and writing, participating in radio activities from elementary to high school, leading the radio team, and delivering the daily message. He won local competitions in his educational district, notably in story writing and poetry recitation, and participated for consecutive years in the top students’ competitions. He also joined the writing team at his school, contributing to the play sections during school celebrations.
During his preparatory studies at Al-Zahira Preparatory Secondary Institute in Al-Sinbillawin, Fares excelled in his literary and radio talents, gaining fame for his remarkable writings of poems and stories. His talents caught the attention of the institute’s sheikh, who organized a special ceremony to honor him, being the youngest student at the institute. The sheikh praised Fares’s talent in front of the students, encouraging them to respect this unique talent, and promising him a bright future in literature and writing.
During his high school years, Fares began publishing literary articles and his poems, with guidance and support from several renowned media professionals and journalists. He was able to build a strong foundation for his career in journalism and media, steadily moving toward achieving his dreams and aspirations in the media and journalism world.
**”Journey into the Digital Media World”**
He entered the world of YouTube and social media with a clear vision and unwavering passion. His beginnings were humble, launching his YouTube channel in 2013, at the end of his elementary school years. That period was filled with challenges as the platform was still in its early stages.
Despite the significant challenges he faced, Fares did not lose his determination and perseverance. He began producing unique and innovative content that matched the tastes and interests of his target audience. His initial content was diverse and comprehensive, ranging from entertainment videos and short films to educational and informative material.
The road was not easy, as he encountered many challenges and criticisms at the start of his career. There were significant doubts from some people about his success and the possibility of building a large audience on YouTube.
However, with determination and willpower, he was able to break through barriers and build a wide and diverse audience. He began achieving tangible successes, with the views on his videos increasing significantly, and the number of subscribers on his channel steadily rising.
YouTube was the environment where he grew, but he did not stop there. He effectively leveraged social media, spreading his content across other platforms like Facebook, and successfully building a large audience on these platforms as well.
Gradually, Fares became one of the influential figures in the digital media world, serving as a role model for young people striving to achieve similar success online. His journey reflects a true success story of relentless passion, a strong desire to achieve dreams, and perseverance that knows no bounds.
"Presenter in the Darkness of Doubts"
*My Voyage into the World of Media*
Do you remember Umm Kulthum when she sang, “O you who filled my life with love, I dedicate my life to you”? This phrase encapsulates a powerful declaration of love and devotion, a willingness to offer one’s life as a gift to a beloved, illustrating profound emotional immersion and deep love.
This is precisely what happened with me and media, from childhood to this very moment. But as the saying goes, “Love can kill.” So, can hope succeed in mending what the harshness of reality has broken? Or will darkness prevail, engulfing everything in its path?
Let me introduce myself. My name is Fares El Hoseny. My passion for media began when I was in primary school. I was sitting with my family as they watched a TV series, deeply moved by the events, engaging with the story. At that moment, questions flooded my mind: How do they create these series? I wanted to uncover the secrets behind making these works, and curiosity began to swirl in my mind. I was eager to learn more about this world, so I turned to the internet and searched for the secrets of filmmaking and television production. That moment changed my life, sparking a deep love and passion for everything related to media.
My passion, and it remains, is to create an impact on those who read, listen, or watch. If I made someone think about their dream, if I made an oppressed person feel justice, if I gave hope to the discouraged, or if I made a fearful person feel peace, then I have made an impact and delivered a message—this is my passion and all my love.
I started staying up late to learn, write stories, poetry, and scripts, so I could be part of the world that moves people and gives them new hope. I decided to share this with others, to be the medium that carries hope and love to people, and to be someone who lights their path.
The means available to me was content creation on YouTube, using the simple resources I had. My journey in the world of YouTube began in 2013 when I was in the last year of primary school. At that time, the platform was still in its early stages, with content creators being very few. Despite that, I was incredibly excited, yet also uneasy. Just the idea of trying something new, combined with my young age and the environment around me, was somewhat intimidating. But I was thrilled to share my ideas and talent in writing and influencing. I borrowed my brother’s phone (a Nokia N8) and made my first video, which I posted on YouTube.
Even though people around me laughed and mocked, calling it a waste of time and saying I was just idle, I didn’t stop doing what I loved. I started filming and posting, even though the videos initially had no views.
I faced strong resistance from those around me—harsh criticisms and mocking words pierced me with cruelty. Doubts began to creep into my mind. Long nights were spent in tension, with anxiety casting a shadow over every step I took. The thoughts constantly nagged at me: Am I on the right path? Can I really succeed?
I was on the verge of deciding to quit. What was driving me to endure all this pain? But then I noticed a glimmer of hope—a small movement in my channel. I reconsidered and decided to keep going. I started to see people following me and responding to what I was doing.
From there, a new phase of my journey began, filled with intense challenges. I moved on to middle school, and my channel grew. I didn’t stop at just one channel; at that time, I had more than four channels. During this period, I learned everything related to media—writing, filming, editing, lighting, sound, directing, production, and even marketing and sales. It was all self-taught through online research and practical experience. I gained hundreds of thousands of followers and millions of views. I wanted to try the kind of content I loved, which made me think about entering this field. I gathered my friends and started creating short films, which I posted on my channel. Despite my busy study schedule, I would take the footage I shot on my phone and work on it between classes. During those days, I filmed three videos a week, edited them, and started gaining some fame in my circle as “Fares, the film guy.”
In the third year of middle school, one of the best moments of my life happened. I told my father that I needed him to come with me to the bank the next day to receive my first earnings from the channel because everything was still in his name—I didn’t have an ID yet. He was very happy for me because he had seen how hard I worked, and now I was reaping the rewards of my efforts. But the truth is, my joy wasn’t just about the money; it was because what I loved was starting to bring me income.
But as the saying goes, “Things don’t always go as planned.” Two of my biggest channels were shut down due to copyright issues—I used music that wasn’t mine. I was devastated and tried to get them back, but I failed. Then, someone offered to help me on a Facebook group. I still remember his name—Disha. We started talking, and he asked if I had linked them to an email that I still had access to. I said yes—it was my third channel. He asked for the email, and I, in my naivety, gave it to him. He hacked the channel and blocked me. I can’t describe my state at that time—a journey of hard work fraught with difficulties, followed by moments of sharp downfall. I found myself alone, facing the circumstances, trying with all my might to stand on my feet again. But the tears that hadn’t yet dried prevented me from looking forward with confidence. I lived moments of despair, but the unquenchable passion within me forced me to continue. Now, I was left with just one channel with 40,000 subscribers—the one I still have.
Then came high school, bringing with it new challenges and a renewed passion for posting, but to a lesser extent due to focusing more on my studies. But life knew how to strike me again.
In my final year of high school, I was eagerly awaiting the results so I could celebrate and finally join the Faculty of Media. I opened the website and entered my roll number, only to face the greatest disaster—the result said I had failed. I laughed hysterically, caught between panic and disbelief. When I inquired about the reason, it turned out there was a mistake, and the result was corrected—I became the top student in my institute and finally joined the Faculty of Media, after much struggle.
In my first year at university, I started making videos again and posted them, but the results were weak, as I hadn’t posted anything for a long time. The reach was low, but I returned with renewed passion and new dreams, regardless of the medium—whether it be social media or television.
Now, I am in my third year, majoring in Radio and Television at Al-Azhar University. I’ve taken dozens of courses in the field, as I strongly believe that skills can deteriorate, wither, die, and end just like muscles, so I always maintain them through training.
It’s been ten years—the time I’ve spent in content creation and skill development. Even if this period included experiences and works that weren’t necessarily professional, if you see me now, you might think I’m a new face imposing itself. But remember the Bamboo Tree Theory—a neat little theory from Asia. The bamboo plant takes five years to grow—four and a half of those years it remains underground, with nothing visible. Then, in the last six months, it shoots up to five meters tall. So the question is, did it grow in six months, or in five years? You saw the external growth that happened in the last five or six months. Ten years of work to be able to speak, narrate, and say, “I’m beginning to emerge after the disappearance.”
My passion has been and still is to make an impact on those who read, listen, or watch. If I made someone think about their dream, if I made an oppressed person feel justice, if I gave hope to the discouraged, or if I made a fearful person feel peace, then I have made an impact and delivered a message—this is my passion and all my love.
And this was just a small part of my story, which has not yet been completed. I will leave the rest of the story to be told by fate…
